It was always going to be tough to get the boys up again for the final match of their tournament.
A two hour wait and 24 degrees wasn’t going to help us as we prepare to meet the Spanish side CD Almeda.
Team line up…
Ferry Robertson Beattie Neill Hanratty Di Angelo White
Currie Fc started the brightest and managed to keep their composure despite going behind to a tidy finish, but it would prove to be the only time the Spaniards would threaten.
Several dubious refereeing decisions went against us as the locals decided to go down at every opportunity.
Half time came and went with Herd Tollins and Watson coming on allowing all players again to play their part.
It was Beattie who grabbed the equaliser, a 35 yarder bending in to top right hand corner.
Five minutes to go and with the game heading towards penalties Neill got the goal he craved all weekend. Some brilliant attacking play and the fell kindly for the young man to place it in to the back of the net.
The Latin temperament left a lot to be desired as our boys battled for every ball and looked the more likely to score a third.
The ref blew for full time sparking wild celebrations from the terraces and on the pitch.
Whoever said that a 3rd place match was meaningless certainly haven’t met our boys.
Currie Fc 2-1 CD Almeda
Mon the Currie!!
